Program Overview


Program Overview

The university program in question is focused on "Vehículos eléctricos" (Electric Vehicles), aiming to equip students with the knowledge to install and maintain electrical and electronic components of electric vehicles, including on-board energy storage systems.


Presentation

This is the 2nd edition of the program, with 20 ECTS credits, offered in a presential mode. The program is part of the Formación Profesional de Electromecánica de Vehículos (Professional Training in Electromechanical Vehicle Maintenance) and is taught in Catalan and Spanish. It is free of charge (100% subsidized) and is primarily aimed at working professionals.


Objectives

The objectives of the program include:


  • Identifying elements that define electric vehicles, their functions, and topologies, as well as modeling an electric vehicle.
  • Analyzing an electric traction motor and simulating and characterizing the operation of an electric drive.
  • Distinguishing different storage technologies and simulating the operation of batteries and hydrogen fuel cell systems.
  • Identifying the needs of electrical and electronic connections of the different subsystems of the electric vehicle.

Target Audience

The program is directed at students with:


  • A degree in Automotive Engineering, Industrial Electronic and Automatic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A postgraduate degree (Master's) or equivalent.
  • A Higher Technician (FP Higher Degree) or equivalent in the professional families of Transport and Vehicle Maintenance or Electricity and Electronics.
  • A professional certificate of Level 3 in the professional family of Electricity and Electronics.
  • Experience in the field, in case of not having the required academic qualifications.

Contents

The program covers:


  • Hybrid and electric vehicles: architecture, technology, and regulations.
  • Electric traction motors and drives.
  • Batteries and other energy sources for electric vehicles.
  • Electrical and electronic connections of the electric vehicle.

Methodology

The teaching methodology includes:


  • Practical sessions in the classroom.
  • Resolution of exercises.
  • Tutoring. The evaluation criteria include attendance (minimum 80% required), resolution of exercises, questionnaires, or exams, and the use of the virtual campus.

Faculty

The academic direction is led by David Gallegos Díez, Doctor in Mechanical Engineering from the Universitat Politčcnica de Catalunya (UPC), with over 20 years of experience in multinational companies in the automotive sector.
