Introduction to the Program

The Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación de Barcelona (ETSETB) offers a degree in Ingeniería de Tecnologías y Servicios de Telecomunicación, with a specialization in Sistemas Telemáticos. This program replaces the previous Grado en Ingeniería Telemática.

Program Description

The Sistemas Telemáticos specialization focuses on providing students with the knowledge to conceive, design, implement, and operate telematic networks, as well as their security mechanisms, protocols, and services. The program is structured into two periods per year, with a fall semester (September to January) and a spring semester (February to June).

Mandatory Courses

The first five semesters of the degree are common to all specializations and cover basic subjects and foundational knowledge of the different specializations. In the sixth semester, students choose their specialization and receive specific knowledge in their chosen field. For Sistemas Telemáticos, the mandatory courses include:

• Transporte, Control y Gestión en Internet
• Análisis y Evaluación de Redes
• Software para Aplicaciones Distribuidas
• Sistemas de Apoyo a las Comunicaciones Móviles
• Diseńo de Aplicaciones Telemáticas

Advanced Project in Sistemas Telemáticos Engineering

In the seventh semester, students must complete the Proyecto Avanzado de Ingeniería de Sistemas Telemáticos, a complex engineering project that requires collaboration within a group of 6 to 10 students. Examples of past projects include:

• Wireless Networks research group - IoT for Everything: Developing a low-cost device to interact with objects and smartphones.
• Caixabank Artificial Intelligence / Cognitive Systems Group - AI Assistant for Meetings: An AI-driven assistant to schedule meetings from email analysis.
• Foot Analytics - Beating MAC Randomization: Improving a system to determine customer behavior at points of sale.
• Sabis-Banc Sabadell - BlockChain Based Event Management System: Developing software based on BlockChain to manage event returns to artists.

Students can also choose from a range of elective courses and seminars specific to Sistemas Telemáticos, including:

Internships

Students can complete their elective credits through internships in companies. The ETSETB manages a large number of agreements with companies in the TIC sector and other sectors that require students and graduates with TIC skills. Final Degree Project

Finally, students must complete a Trabajo Fin de Grado, an original and personal work in the field of Sistemas Telemáticos. Many students take advantage of the school's strong international connections to complete their project in universities, research centers, or companies around the world.

The training received by students in the Grado en Ingeniería de Tecnologías y Servicios de Telecomunicación ensures versatility and prepares them for a wide range of master's programs, both within the UPC and internationally. The most relevant master's programs offered by the UPC include:

• Master en Ingeniería de Telecomunicación: This master's program enables students to practice as Ingeniero de Telecomunicación and provides updated training analogous to what the school has offered in recent years. It can be taken in a double degree mode with several European universities.
