Open Learning for Credit

Open Learning for credit is ideal for individuals who are curious and interested in exploring a subject at a university level, at their own pace. This includes mature students looking to support a university application, anyone interested in studying for credit, and professionals seeking Continued Professional Development (CPD).

• Join UCD students in their lectures, labs, tutorials, and seminars
• Choose modules in either Autumn (Trimester 1) or Spring (Trimester 2)
• Enjoy all the benefits of being a UCD student, without the full-time commitment
• Study at your own pace and choose to exit with:
  • A University Certificate in Open Learning (30 credits, NFQ Level 7)
  • A University Diploma in Open Learning (60 credits, NFQ Level 7)

Application Process

Applications for Open Learning are made directly to Access and Lifelong Learning. Once the application is assessed, a formal offer will be made via email. Upon acceptance, another email with a link to register for the specific module will be sent within 2-3 working days.

Module Selection

There will not be an option to select modules when submitting the application for the Open Learning programme. The application is to join the programme, and module selection will occur later. An email notification will be sent when it is time to choose modules at the end of August/beginning of September.

Deposit and Fee Information

• A 100 deposit is required at the time of accepting the offer
• Each 5-credit module costs 525
• A small number of 10-credit modules cost 1,050
• Modules commence either in September and January and are offered over a 12-week period
