Program Overview
Research Integrity Training
The University College Dublin (UCD) is committed to promoting an environment that maintains the highest standards of integrity in relation to its educational mission and research activity. This commitment is in line with the 2019 National Policy Statement on Ensuring Research Integrity in Ireland and The European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (Revised Edition 2023).
Training Package
The Research Integrity Training package is designed to provide researchers with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct research with integrity. The training package is divided into two main sections: Core Sections and Specialist Sections.
Core Sections
The Core Sections cover the following topics:
- Responsible Research Practice
- Irresponsible Research Practice
- Planning Your Research
- Managing and Recording Your Research
- Data Selection, Analysis and Presentation
- Scholarly Publication
- Professional Responsibilities
- Communication, Social Responsibility and Impact
Specialist Sections
The Specialist Sections cover the following topics:
- Conflicts of Interest
- Research Involving Human Participants
- The Care and Use of Animals in Research
- Intellectual Property
- An Introduction to Export Controls
Accessing Research Integrity Training
All UCD staff and students can access the Research Integrity Training module by logging onto Brightspace using their UCD Connect credentials. The module can be found by clicking on "Explore" and searching for "Research Integrity Training".
Research Degree Students
Research Integrity Training is a compulsory element of all Research Degree programmes for students admitted after 31 August 2019. Students can meet this requirement by taking either the Online Research Integrity Training for Research Degree Students on Brightspace or the Research Integrity Module SCI50020.
Certification
Completion of the relevant sections of the Research Integrity Training package, along with passing all of the quizzes, generates a Research Integrity Certificate in Brightspace. Experienced researchers can undertake Core sections 1 and 2 to be certified as having completed Concise Research Integrity Training, while research graduate students, postgraduate, and early career researchers need to complete and pass all 8 Core sections to receive their Comprehensive Research Integrity Certificate.
