Program Overview

UCD School of Classics

The UCD School of Classics offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the ancient world.

Study Tour to Greece

Every summer, students of Classics from UCD join those from other Irish universities for a study tour to Greece. This tour is led by two experienced guides from the Irish university system. During the ten days, sites ranging from Bronze Age through Byzantine are visited, thus catering for all interests. Key sites in Athens such as the Acropolis, Kerameikos, and Agora are followed by some of the highlights of the Peloponnese like Delphi, Olympia, Mystra, Sparta, and Mycenae. A number of museums are also on the itinerary, including the new Acropolis Museum in Athens.

  • The study tour can be taken as a Level 2 module for 5 academic credits, GRC20130 Study Tour of Ancient Greece.
  • Students must go on the tour during the summer preceding the semester in which they will take the module.
  • During semester, regular tutorial meetings help students produce a research project relating to an aspect of the tour and a travel journal.
  • The module is coordinated by Dr Jo Day.
