Introduction to the Amgen Biotech Experience Ireland

The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an innovative science education programme designed to introduce secondary school students to the excitement of scientific discovery.

Programme Overview

This programme provides training in molecular biology experiments for secondary school teachers, along with access to professional-grade scientific equipment and curriculum-linked teaching materials. The programme is completely free of charge and aims to facilitate the teaching of laboratory practicals in the classroom.

History and Hosting

ABE has been in Ireland since 2014 and is hosted by Systems Biology Ireland, based in University College Dublin (UCD).

Distribution and Training

There are distribution centres in Drumcondra Education Centre, Monaghan Education Centre, and Laois Education Centre. Training workshops are held in each of these locations every September, and teachers can collect kits from these venues throughout the year.
