Program Overview


Program Overview

The Transition to a Manager Mindset/Skillset program is designed for individuals who have recently become people managers, including faculty members managing postdoctoral fellows. This practical workshop aims to support participants in developing the necessary skills to effectively manage and motivate their teams.


Program Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:


  • Feel more confident in their management skills
  • Have learned a practical approach to delegating to their team
  • Understand how to support and motivate others
  • Have had the opportunity to practice giving and receiving feedback

Program Structure

The workshop will focus on three key management skills:


  • Delegation/workload management
  • Supporting and motivating others
  • Receiving and providing feedback The program will be interactive, including experiential activities, individual work, and group work, as well as scenario-based practice to bring learning to life. Participants will be asked to reflect on their experiences, explore approaches and ideas, and create practical action plans to address their individual work needs.

Program Duration

The course is 7 hours in duration.


Program Content

The workshop will support participants in gaining clarity and purpose as they move into their new role, developing an understanding of the core mindset and skills necessary for success as a manager. Following the session, participants will be provided with resources to further engage in the topic, including suggested reading and other materials to continue their development.
