Introduction to the Academic Integrity Course

The Academic Integrity Course is an introductory program developed by UCD Library with support from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of academic integrity, including the principles of citing, referencing, and avoiding plagiarism.

Course Overview

  • The course is composed of an interactive tutorial, a quiz, and a certificate.
  • The interactive tutorial section takes students, on average, 45-60 minutes to complete and covers the core principles of academic integrity in writing, citing, and referencing.
  • The quiz is only released to students upon full completion of the interactive tutorial and presents 10 randomly selected questions from a question bank of 53 questions.
  • To pass the quiz and receive the certificate, students must achieve a score of 80%. Unlimited multiple attempts are permitted, with students only needing to retake questions from the sections they got wrong.

Course Access and Completion

  • The course is available to all students for the duration of their study in UCD through Brightspace Explore by searching for Academic Integrity.
  • Students or staff need to enroll in the module to access it, with detailed instructions provided separately.
  • Instructions on how to use the course, access the quiz, and download the certificate are available within Brightspace Explore.

Skills Resources and Academic Integrity Guide

  • The UCD Library Academic Integrity Guide provides students, faculty, and staff with access to tutorials, worked examples, and detailed information on all referencing styles.
  • This guide is designed to complement the learning from the Academic Integrity Course and support students in their academic work.

UCD Plagiarism Policy

  • The Academic Integrity Course is part of the arrangements for ensuring that appropriate and timely student advisory arrangements are in place to promote academic integrity and educate students about avoiding plagiarism.
  • The course supports Schools, Module Coordinators, and students in fulfilling their responsibilities as outlined in the UCD Student Plagiarism Policy.
