UCD Access and Lifelong Learning

UCD Access and Lifelong Learning is a unit within University College Dublin that is responsible for widening access and supporting diverse student cohorts. The unit provides various programs and services to support students, including those with disabilities, mature students, part-time learners, and students from communities experiencing disadvantage.


Future You Mentoring Programme

The Future You Mentoring programme is designed to provide students with the tools and support they need to succeed in higher education. The program runs for 3 years, from Transition Year (TY) through 6th year, and provides students with mentoring sessions, information on university courses, and guidance on the application process.


Program Details

  • The program is open to students from TY to 6th year.
  • Students participate in mentoring sessions, which are held in-school and on-campus.
  • The program provides students with information on university courses, career options, and the application process.
  • Students also have the opportunity to attend events on campus and meet with current university students.

Mentorship

  • Mentors are UCD students who have participated in the Access Centre programs.
  • Mentors provide guidance and support to students throughout the program.
  • Students meet with their mentors at least 4 times during the 5th and 6th year.

Eligibility

  • The program is open to all TY students, but only 15 students per school are selected for the 5th and 6th year mentoring sessions.
  • Students must meet certain eligibility criteria, including being from a disadvantaged background or having a disability.

Scholarship

  • Students who participate in the program and go on to study at UCD may be eligible for a scholarship through the Cothrom na Féinne program.
  • The scholarship is worth 1,500 per year for the duration of the undergraduate degree.
