Program Overview
The Radiation Safety Training is an online course aimed at faculty, research staff, technical officers, postgraduate researchers, and UCD students. This 2-hour course provides essential knowledge on radiation safety principles, hazards, and best practices to minimize exposure.
Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are to provide both radiation and laboratory workers with basic information needed to protect themselves and to understand and comply with legislative requirements.
Course Content
The course focuses on the following topics:
- Nature and Characteristics of Radiation and Radioactivity
- Radiation Detection and Measurement
- Possible Hazards of Radiation Including Hazards to the Fetus
- Dose and Exposure Limits
- Safety Practices Which Can Reduce Radiation Exposure to Workers and the Environment
- Current Regulations and Emergency Procedures

Target Audience
The course is designed for all university staff and students who work directly or around radioactive materials. Individuals who work directly with radioactive materials will require further specialized training provided by their respective departments' Radiation Protection Supervisors.
