Professional Certification in Veterinary Education

Introduction

The Professional Certificate in Veterinary Education aims to develop and enhance teaching practice as an educator of veterinary professionals. This programme will be of value to those actively involved in teaching and assessing veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing students.

Programme Details

• Credits: 5 ECTS
• Starts: January 2026
• Delivery: Part-time programme with a flexible approach to accommodate busy professionals, primarily delivered online with two must-attend face-to-face sessions in UCD.

Topics Covered

• Competency-based veterinary education
• Teaching strategies to support students' competency development: knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attributes
• Teaching strategies applicable for different learning contexts (e.g., large group teaching, small group teaching, practical classes, clinical settings)
• Approaches to assessment in veterinary education
• Universal design for learning

Programme Structure

• Attend 1 hour online live lecture x 12 weeks
• Complete an individual/group learning activity x 12 weeks
• Attend a 2-hour on-campus tutorial session in UCD x 2
• Completion of all assessment components

Fees

• €1050 euros
• A fee waiver will be applied for staff of UCD's School of Veterinary Medicine

Workload Expectations

Students should expect to engage in a combination of online and on-campus activities, including live lectures, individual/group learning activities, and on-campus tutorial sessions, to complete all assessment components.
