Prof Cert in Multielement Behaviour Support
Overview
The Prof Cert in Multielement Behaviour Support is a micro-credential accredited by UCD and delivered by the Callan Institute at St John of God. This course is designed for individuals who work in the disability field and runs over 10 weeks during the summer. Learners will be introduced to a biological, psychological, social, and environmental understanding of the role behaviours of concern serve for someone living with a disability. The Multi-Element Behaviour Support Framework will be covered, informed by a Human Rights Based Approach.
Who Should Apply
This Professional Certificate is open to all individuals with an interest in disability, including but not limited to, people with disabilities, family members, and people who work in the disability field.
What Will I Learn
On completion of this micro-credential, learners will:
- Review and critique the contemporary theories and principles in behavioural change science.
- Critically appraise and evaluate the validity of behavioural support models, including the Multi-Element Model.
- Identify and design systems that support the provision and evaluation of behavioural support services.
- Analyse and critique legislation, policy, research, media, and professional standards as they relate to behavioural support.
How Will I Benefit
Students will learn valuable knowledge about behavioural change science and acquire skills to critically appraise behavioural support models.
How Will I Learn
Teaching and learning will be based on collaborative enquiry that encourages the student to draw upon their experiences and knowledge. This will be facilitated through lectures, group work, group discussion, critique and debate, case studies, student presentation, guided study, self-directed learning, and personal reflection.
Eligibility
- Entry requirements are a primary degree with a minimum 2.2 classification (second class honours, grade two) or International equivalent.
- Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5 in each element), or equivalent.

- Assignment: Mid-term group assignment (50% of final grade)
- Assignment: End of year assignment (50% of final grade)

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be awarded a minor award at level 9 on the Irish NFQ.
