Roles and Responsibilities

The Student's Responsibilities

• Students must familiarise themselves with the internship process and attend any preparatory training before commencing their internship.
  • All students must sign off on their Student Internship Acceptance Form, which includes a commitment to maintaining confidentiality with regard to host activities and an agreement that Intellectual Property (IP) created belongs to the host.
• Any students who source their own internship must seek approval of the host by the Governing Board before proceeding with the Internship.
• Students should contact the Internship & Employability Manager if they have identified an organisation to intern with.

On Internship

• Student interns are under the supervision and direction of the host company organisation and are expected to honour commitments as set out in the internship specification provided by the internship host.
• Students should endeavour to be motivated and enthusiastic, and add value to the organisation with whom they have an internship.
• They should approach their work with diligence and take initiative with any work they are tasked with by the host.
• While on an internship, the student intern will be expected to behave responsibly and professionally.
• Interns will be under the supervision and direction of the host company, and are expected to honour any commitments as set out in the internship specification by the employment host.

Learning Outcomes and Assessment

• The module descriptor for the Internship module lists a number of learning outcomes and assessment tasks designed to enhance the learning experience for the student.
• The learning outcomes have been designed for the benefit of all involved, to help both the intern and the host to have a positive experience and to understand the purpose of the internship and what is involved of them.
• Learning outcomes will be examined by a number of different mechanisms as set out in the module descriptor.
• These may range from one or more assessment strategies ranging from diary entries, learning journals, student reports, internship host evaluation forms, post internship presentations or any other mechanisms of assessment that may be defined on the module descriptor.
• As the internship accounts for 30 credits of a student's academic record, students must engage fully with any assessment criteria associated with the internship.
• They must also agree meeting times and/or site visits with their assigned academic supervisor throughout the duration of the internship, and report any difficulties if they arise to the Internship Manager.
