Program Overview


Medical Ethics Masterclass

The Medical Ethics Masterclass is designed for medical and technological healthcare professionals to learn about ethical standards in the healthcare industry. The masterclass covers various topics, including ethical theories, medical ethics in research, and ethical dilemmas in patient care.


Target group

The target audience for this masterclass includes medical and technological healthcare professionals, such as clinical physicists, biomedical technologists, doctors, and other medical professionals working in the healthcare industry.


Topics

The masterclass covers the following topics:


  • What is medical ethics?
  • Ethical theories
  • Introduction to medical ethics in scientific research
  • Research and guidance ethics: theory and practical example
  • Ethical choices when developing and implementing medical technology
  • Life extension and life shortening using technology
  • Economic ethics for choices in healthcare
  • Ethical dilemmas in the neonatal intensive care unit

Language Masterclass

The masterclass is conducted in Dutch.


Setup

The masterclass is held once a year and consists of two interactive days. Participants can choose to complete an assignment, which is reviewed and assessed by two professionals from the field. The assignment is mandatory for SMPE/e-QME trainees, but optional for other participants.


Assignment

The assignment consists of two parts: a reflective piece of 3 pages applying ethical theories to a medical ethical issue, and an advisory letter of 1 page referring to the reflective piece and presenting the participant's opinion in a well-substantiated and convincing manner.

The Medical Ethics Program 2026 is scheduled for March 23-24, 2026.

The masterclass will take place on Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24, 2026.


Course costs

The costs for the masterclass are:


  • ME-2 days without assignment: € 1,020.00
  • ME-2 days with assignment: € 1,520.00 (including review of the paper/assignment) The costs include catering and lunch.

Course location

The masterclass will be held at TU/e-Vector Building, room Vector 2.107.
