Program Overview


Fundamentals of Work and Organizational Psychology for Premasters

Course Description

Competent, motivated, and productive employees are a crucial asset for many organizations. Therefore, insight into the human factor in organizational processes is highly relevant for Industrial Engineering, Innovation Management, and Operations Management students. In this course, students will acquire knowledge of important concepts and findings from personnel, work- and organizational psychology, common research methods that are used in the domain of work- and organizational psychology, and basic descriptive and inferential statistics.

Objectives

After the successful completion of the course, students should be able to:


  1. Explain, compare, and summarize the main work and organizational psychology theories, approaches, and paradigms aimed at the optimization of people performance at work.
  2. Demonstrate a critical perspective on the application of basic human behavioral models aimed at enhancing performance at work.
  3. Recognize the complexities of behavioral analysis and optimization at the micro- (individual), meso- (team), and macro (organizational) level, through applying these models in realistic case contexts.
  4. Critically evaluate the application and role of organizational psychology in industrial engineering.
  5. Apply common research methods in the field of work- and organizational psychology and basic descriptive and inferential statistics.
