Economic Policy in Practice: Social Cost Benefit Analysis

Course Description

This course provides students with practical insights into the social cost benefit analysis (SCBA), its embeddedness in welfare economics, and the policy context. The introductory part of the course covers the basics of social cost benefit analysis, including calculating direct and indirect benefits of projects. Emphasis is given to the link between SCBA and the decision-making process of policymakers, as well as policy discussions.


Course Objectives

After completing the course, students will be able to:


  • Apply theoretical and conceptual insights on economic and innovation policy to real-life large-scale infrastructural projects
  • Understand how economic policy rationales can be operationalized and evaluated based on a social cost-benefit analysis
  • Apply the method of SCBA to real-life projects
