Description

The objective of the Master's program is to form contemporary historians, providing them with the knowledge and techniques necessary to undertake research work, either as professional historians or in other fields of work (editing, journalism, museology, cultural animation, etc.).


Official and Interuniversity Character

The program has an official and interuniversity character, as it is participated by nine prestigious universities (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Universidad de Cantabria, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad del País Vasco, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Universidad de Valencia, Universidad de Zaragoza, and Universidad de Granada).

It has an accredited trajectory, backed by periodic quality controls, and received the Quality Mention from the Ministry of Education and Culture.


Organization and Specialization

The program is organized to be compatible with work life, allowing students to complete it in one or two years, with morning and afternoon classes. It offers a wide possibility of specialization (more than a hundred optional subjects among all the headquarters) and the student personally meets professors and students from other universities through an online course and a cycle of conferences and seminars.

Requirements for Access and Admission

The Master's program is especially indicated for students who possess the degree of Licenciado/a or Graduado/a in History, Philosophy and Letters (specializing in History), Geography and History (specializing in History). However, it is also oriented towards graduates in other degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences who are interested in the knowledge, methods, and techniques of research in Contemporary History.

The admission criteria are based on the following:


  • Title with which access is made, prioritizing the degree in History, official in Spain or another issued by a higher education institution belonging to another State integrated into the European Higher Education Area that enables access to Master's studies.
  • Academic record: Average grade obtained in the degree that gives access to the Master's program.
  • Curriculum Vitae: Professional experience, research experience, training stays abroad, scholarships, accredited knowledge of languages.

Título previo con el que se accede, primando la titulación en Historia, oficial en Espańa u otra expedida por una institución de educación superior perteneciente a otro Estado integrante del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior que faculte en el mismo para el acceso a enseńanzas de Máster. 50%
Expediente académico: Calificación media obtenida en la titulación que da acceso al Máster 30%
Curriculum Vitae: en el curriculum se valorará la experiencia profesional, experiencia investigadora, estancias formativas en el extranjero, becas, conocimiento acreditado de idiomas 20%

Graduates or licensed professionals in History, Geography and History, Humanities, or Philosophy and Letters, but also in other careers in Humanities and Social Sciences (Journalism, Law, Sociology, Anthropology, etc.).

The fundamental objective is the preparation of researchers capable of making research their main activity (within the framework of the University, institutes, and research centers, in specialized journals, etc.) or complementary (as an extension of professional performance in archives, libraries, museums, cultural centers, secondary education, etc.). It also provides permanent training in the field of Contemporary History to different professionals in the field of teaching, journalism, or scientific dissemination.
