Introduction to the Diploma of Specialization in Labor Relations

The Diploma of Specialization in Labor Relations is a complementary title to the Master's Degree in Access to the Law Profession, offering students the opportunity to specialize in the legal-labor discipline. This title can be completed in one academic year and is compatible with the Master's program, as it is taught on Fridays during the morning.

This title is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire specialization in Labor Law and Social Security through high-quality teaching, imparted by expert researchers, experienced lawyers, labor inspectors, and social security professionals, as well as representatives of trade unions and business organizations.

Objectives

• Specialization in labor and social security matters.
• Acquisition of the necessary competencies and skills to practice any profession related to labor relations through the development of practical activities and simulations led by experienced professionals.
• Development of practical activities that allow students to interact in the context of real conflicts.

Competences

Basic Competences

• Knowledge of private law institutions and their substantive-procedural treatment for adequate exercise of the law profession.
• Analysis and synthesis of legal information for its application.
• Ability to argue with convincing legal reasoning on a theoretical issue of medium complexity related to various legal matters.
• Application of positive law norms to solve a legal problem or controversial legal issue.
• Oral exposition in public of legal arguments in an orderly and understandable manner.
• Ability to apply knowledge and problem-solving capacity in new or little-known environments within broader contexts (or multidisciplinary) related to the area of study.
• Ability to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments based on incomplete or limited information, including reflections on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of knowledge and judgments.

Specific Competences

• Advanced knowledge of labor law and social security institutions.
• Ability to manage labor relations with a transnational component.
• Critical analysis of specific labor law and social security problems.
• Ability to resolve practical labor law and social security problems.
• Ability to handle labor law and social security sources (collective agreement and employment contract).
• Understanding of the regulation and practical application of labor procedures and litigation in labor law and social security.

Admission and Enrollment

Requirements for Access

• To access the teachings of the Diploma of Specialization, it is necessary to have an official university degree in Law or equivalent.
• Titles from foreign educational systems do not require homologation, provided they demonstrate a level of training equivalent to the corresponding Spanish official university titles and enable access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue.

Specific Admission Requirements

• Possession of the degree of Lawyer or Graduate in Law or equivalent in the case of degrees issued by foreign centers.
• A specific reserve of places (50%) is established for applicants who have been admitted to the Master's in Access to the Law Profession at the UAM.

Selection Criteria

• The following criteria and weights will be used for student selection:
  • Academic record in the Degree/Licentiate (up to 50%).
  • Motivational presentation letter (up to 10%).
  • Additional university degrees to the Degree in Law (Degree, Master, or university's own degrees) (up to 10%).
  • Previous professional experience in the field of Labor Law (up to 10%).
  • Admission to the Master's in Access to the Law Profession at the UAM (up to 10%).
  • Other curricular merits (publications, congresses, competitive scholarships, etc.) (up to 10%).

Prices and Scholarships

• The price of the Diploma is 3,410.
• Scholarships: 10% of scholarships on the number of enrolled students, based on criteria such as unemployment situation (10%) and socio-economic situation (90%).
• Payment can be made in installments.

Employability

Practices

Although the Diploma of Specialization in Labor Relations does not contemplate the realization of obligatory practices, students who take this title together with the Official Master's in Access to the Law Profession will be assigned the obligatory practices of the Master (30 credits) in law firms and departments specialized in labor relations.

The specialization in labor relations broadens professional opportunities by favoring the development of the profession in numerous areas of activity, such as:

• Incorporation into law firms.
• Legal advisory activities to companies and/or workers.
• Integration into legal or human resources departments of companies.
• Professional development in advisory and management firms.
• Collaboration with trade union or business organizations.

This specialization also facilitates and favors the professional career in the public function, especially in activities such as Labor Inspection and Social Security, judiciary, or legal body of Social Security lawyers.
