Introduction

The Syndicated Loan Financing Transactions course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of syndicated loan financing transactions from a legal perspective. This course is essential for lawyers, financial professionals, and anyone involved in the world of finance.


Course Details

  • The course will cover the following topics:
    • The roles of different parties in syndicated transactions
    • Understanding the security SPV structure
    • Different types of security
    • Senior v mezzanine financing
    • Documentation and legal framework
    • Lenders' and Borrower's perspectives in negotiating finance documents
    • Key inter-creditor issues
    • Full life cycle of a syndicated transaction
  • The course is aimed at commercial attorneys, paralegals, bankers, and corporate employees of borrowers who are involved in different stages of syndicated financing transactions.
  • The course will be presented by Tanaka Mparutsa, a PhD Candidate in Commercial Law at the University of Cape Town.

Course Schedule

  • The course will be held remotely over three days.
  • There are two scheduled courses in 2026:
    • 17 to 19 June 2026, 14:00 to 16:00 SAST
    • 17 to 19 November 2026, 9:00 to 11:00 SAST

  • Tanaka Mparutsa is a PhD Candidate in Commercial Law at the University of Cape Town.
  • Her research interests include contract law, public procurement law, company law, corporate governance, and corporate compliance.
  • She has obtained degrees in LLB, LLM in Commercial Law, and LLM in International Commercial Law and Practice.
  • She has practiced in the areas of government contracts, public procurement law, and commercial law.
