Program Overview

Master of Financial Engineering

About the Degree

The Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) has replaced the previous MPhil specialising in Mathematical Finance. This intensive and challenging programme combines training in advanced mathematical, statistical, financial, and computing skills with a solid understanding of financial markets, asset pricing theory, and quantitative research. The degree is mathematical in nature and requires a high level of skill in computational modelling.

Graduates will be well equipped for careers in the most technical areas of banking, insurance, asset management, financial consulting, advisory services, and trading, or any occupation where a solid quantitative finance or financial engineering background is critical.

The degree is one year, full-time and starts in January.

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must have an Honours (or four-year equivalent) degree from one of the Faculties of Science, Commerce, or Engineering, with at least two years of Mathematics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in a mathematical science.
  • Once admitted, candidates must pass the pre-courses to continue with the degree.

Application Deadline

Applications close on 30 September.
