Film Impact Screening Facilitator Short Course
The Film Impact Screening Facilitator short course is a collaboration between the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Sunshine Cinema. Running since 2020, this five-month course offers online training on using film as a tool for social change. It also provides access to a network of inspiring change makers and introduces participants to skilled impact producers.
Course Overview
Collectively, participants have hosted film screenings in 15 countries, including South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya, the UK, Honduras, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Hawaii, Namibia, St Eustatius, and the USA. The films screened have covered a range of issues, such as:
- Climate justice
- Land and housing
- Gender-based violence
- Gender equality
- Education
- Children's rights
- Positive self-image
- Mental health
- Indigenous knowledge systems
- Migration
Program Details
The course has been running since 2020 and is offered online. Participants have the opportunity to connect with a network of change makers and learn from skilled impact producers. The course focuses on using film as a tool for social change and has reached a global audience, with screenings held in numerous countries around the world.
