Introduction to the ERASMUS MUNDUS Master Programme (Euroculture)

The ERASMUS MUNDUS Master Programme, also known as Euroculture, is a program managed by the European Union. The Graduate School of Letters participates as a partner in this program.

Programme Overview

The Euroculture Programme offers a unique opportunity for students to explore contemporary Japan in the global context. As part of this program, the school organizes five classes in English related to modern Japanese culture during every fiscal year's second semester.

Course Structure

  • The classes are bi-directional and include field work.
  • Five course units are offered at Osaka University for students of the Erasmus Mundus Master Programme (Euroculture).
  • Each course unit consists of ten lectures, given during the period of October through December.
  • The lectures highlight modern aspects of Japanese culture, society, history, arts, literature, and language from the perspective of interrelationship and mutual impact between Japan and Europe, the US, and Asia.

Teaching Approach

  • Each class is organized to conduct discussions bi-/multi-directionally, based on the argument of an English literature on present-day Japan.
  • The focus is on exploring the interconnections and mutual influences between Japan and other regions, providing a comprehensive understanding of modern Japanese culture.
