Pre-sessional English Language Programme 2026

An Academic English programme to improve students' English language level prior to them starting a postgraduate programme at the University of Edinburgh.

Summer 2026 Programme Options

There are two options for the 2026 summer pre-sessional: 10-week and 6-week in-person programmes.

Programme Details

The following programmes are available:

• 10-week Programme:
  • Courses: Phase 1: English for General Academic Purposes - EEAP (4 weeks) and Phase 2: English for Specific Academic Purposes - ESAP (6 weeks)
  • Dates: Monday 22 June - Friday 28 August 2026
  • Fees: £6750
• 6-week Programme:
  • Courses: Phase 2: English for Specific Academic Purposes - ESAP (6 weeks)
  • Dates: Monday 20 July - Friday 28 August 2026
  • Fees: £4050

10-Week Pre-sessional English Programme

The 10-week programme consists of 4-weeks of Essentials of English for Academic Purposes (EEAP) and 6-weeks English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP).

6-Week Pre-sessional English Programme

The English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) course you select depends on your academic specialism.

BALEAP Accreditation

The British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) inspects and accredits Academic English courses against rigorous criteria covering five categories to give an assurance of quality to students, and to support staff across the profession in meeting and exceeding these agreed standards.

• Accreditation occurs every four years.
• Comments from the 2019 report on our summer courses include:
