Program Overview
Introduction to Huazhong University of Science and Technology
Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive research university under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education. It is a participant university of the former "985" Project in China and one of the first universities approved under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative, China's "Excellence Initiative" for institutions of higher education, ranking among the top ten universities in China.
University Overview
HUST covers an area of over 460 hectares with green trees, favorable environment, and beautiful scenery. It has been referred to as the "University in the Forest" with a 72% greenery coverage. HUST boasts a full range of academic disciplines and has basically built a comprehensive and research-oriented university discipline system. Since the 1960s, HUST has cultivated more than 15,000 outstanding international talents from over 160 countries and regions in the world.
International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship is established by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) to facilitate Chinese language education around the world and support the professional development of Chinese language teachers. The scholarship is available for eligible Chinese language teachers outside of China to further their studies in international Chinese language education and related programs at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).
Eligibility
- Be a non-Chinese citizen
- Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of the Host Institution
- Be in good physical and mental health, be in good academic and behavioral standing
- Be interested in Chinese language education and related work
- Be aged between 16 and 35 years on September 1, 2024; the maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelor's degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances
Scholarship Types and Qualifications
- Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program: The program commences in March 2025 and provides a scholarship of a maximum of five months
- For the areas of Chinese Language, applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required
Scholarship Coverage and Criteria
The scholarship supports tuition, accommodation, living allowance (excluding four-week study program students), and comprehensive medical insurance
Application Procedures
- Online registration is available from October 10th, 2024
- After submitting the application, applicants need to log in to the HUST Online Application and Service System for International Students to register and apply online and upload the International Chinese Teachers Scholarship Application Form as proof for the required registration payment
Application Deadlines
- October 31st, 2024 (for programs commencing in March 2025)
Application Documents
- A scanned copy of passport photo page
- A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity)
- A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions
- A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript
- Physical Examination Form
- Certificate of Non-criminal Record
- Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer
- Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China
Policies
- In-service Chinese language teachers may be exempted from HSK/HSKK certificates if they provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the employer
- Chinese Bridge winners may submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to the Host Institutions directly at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website
Disclaimer
- Applicants are required to provide true, complete, and effective application materials; otherwise, they will be disqualified from applying for HUST
- Those who failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway, and/or suspended will be deprived of the scholarship
