Professional Master Training Program of Communication and Transportation

Objectives

The objectives of this program are to:

1. Master the solid basic knowledge and specialized knowledge of this field; have a strong engineering background; master the basic methods and skills in this field; have a certain ability to solve practical engineering problems.
2. Grasp one foreign language and be proficient in speaking and reading.
3. Establish a rigorous and practical scientific attitude and style of work.
4. Be competent for the related work in this field.

Program Duration

The duration of full-time professional post-graduate students is 2 years (subject to the approval of the university) and the training combines course learning and professional training with an academic dissertation.

Credits Requirements and Allotment

• Total credits: ≥ 32
  • Degree Courses: ≥ 18
    • Compulsory general courses: ≥ 7
      • Study on theory and practice of Chinese characteristics: 2 credits
      • Mathematics: ≥ 3 credits
      • Foreign Language: 2 credits
    • Professional courses: ≥ 2 (compulsory)
    • Optional professional courses: ≥ 6
    • Engineering practice (experiment, project, and diagnosis): ≥ 3 credits
  • Research: ≥ 14
    • Professional practice (including report): 4 credits
    • Internship and practical training: ≥ 4 credits
    • Practical training (including report): 4 credits
    • Thesis proposal: 1 credit (compulsory)
    • Interim progress report: 1 credit (compulsory)
    • Academic Dissertation: 8 credits (compulsory)

Internship and Practical Training

A practical training report is required, and the person in charge of relevant practical training should sign their comments. Those up to the standard of assessment can obtain corresponding credits.

1. The requirements of the design plan: The Master of Engineering should attend the whole process of research and design for a specific project, including research, formulation, completion, and project summary.
2. Practice of professional course (report included): The students should carry out internship and practice in construction units, design units, or research units for at least one month.
3. Professional practical training (report included): The students are required to do practical training at practical training base, enterprises, or engineering design research units for at least three months.

Dissertation

The steps of writing a degree thesis include: thesis proposal, interim progress report, as well as the assessment and defense of the thesis.

1. The form of degree thesis: The contents of a degree thesis can be an engineering design report, research report, and special investigation.
2. Thesis proposal: The thesis proposal should be in accordance with the principle of integrating theory with practice and emphasize students' ability to apply related theory to practical problems.
3. Interim progress report: In the middle stage of the thesis, the Master should make an interim report in the teaching or research group.
4. Assessment of the thesis: After finishing the thesis, if the thesis is approved by the advisor and passes the formal examination, the students can submit the thesis for assessment.
5. Defense of the thesis: Only after the thesis is assessed by reviewers and approved by the advisor as well as the School, can the students have a defense of the thesis.

Degree Awarding

The students who have obtained full credits and have passed the thesis defense as well as the assessment of the Academic Degrees Committee will be awarded a Professional Master Degree of Engineering.
