Program Overview
Traineeship in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is no longer part of the Erasmus+ cooperation due to Brexit, resulting in special rules for studying abroad there. To intern in the United Kingdom, Karolinska Institutet (KI) must apply for an individual agreement for each student, a process that takes time.
Application Process
- Contact a potential supervisor in the United Kingdom.
- If an internship is secured, contact the course leader at KI for approval.
- Once approval is granted, provide the following information to the administrator at KI:
- Details about the British administrator responsible for incoming internship students (name and email).
- Information about the supervisor in the United Kingdom.
- A brief description of the internship.
- If the British institution approves the internship, KI will arrange an individual agreement.
- Fill in a Learning Agreement for Traineeships and send it to the course leader at KI and then to the supervisor in the United Kingdom.
- When the Learning Agreement is signed by all parties, send it back to the administrator at KI, who will assist further with the Erasmus+ scholarship application and insurance.
Important Considerations
- An Erasmus grant cannot be applied for if the internship takes place at a higher education institution.
- The scholarship application must be received at least four weeks before the end of the term.
- For internships at British companies, KI does not need to arrange an individual agreement; a Learning Agreement can be sent directly to the supervisor at the company.
- Note that KI is not responsible for visa matters.
