Program Overview
The program "En frisk skolstart" is an evidence-based family support program aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing overweight among children. The program is designed for a team consisting of a principal, school nurse, and teacher from the same school.
Program Description
The program is based on research in the field of health promotion and prevention of overweight and obesity in children. It follows the intentions of the Swedish National Agency for Education's guidelines for school health services and the curriculum for elementary school. The program provides a structured approach for school health services and teachers to support healthy lifestyles among children and their parents, and to prevent illness.
Program Components
The program consists of four components:
- Children and parents learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles through experiential learning, while teachers develop their health competence.
- The school nurse receives training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support parents in making healthy lifestyle changes.
- A written parent guide helps families develop healthy habits.
- Parents complete a risk test for type 2 diabetes and are referred to primary care if necessary.
Program Goals and Objectives
The program aims to introduce the "En frisk skolstart" program and its implementation in schools. After completing the program, participants will be able to:
- Explain and apply the program's content
- Organize the program's implementation in their school
- Motivate parents and children to participate in the program
- Conduct MI conversations with parents
- Evaluate the program's effectiveness and make adjustments as needed
- Describe the importance of healthy lifestyles for children's health
- Discuss healthy lifestyles with children and parents
Target Audience
The program is designed for principals, school nurses, and teachers in elementary school who form a team of up to six participants from the same school.
Course Leaders and Teachers
The program is led by Professor Liselotte Sch輎er Elinder and Docent Kristi Sidney Annerstedt, along with other experts in relevant fields.
Course Format and Schedule
The program consists of five modules, including online lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises. The program starts on March 2, 2026, and ends on May 28, 2027.
Course Fee
The course fee is 20,500 SEK (excluding VAT) per team of up to six participants.
Registration and Cancellation Policy
Registration is binding, and cancellation fees apply. The course may be cancelled if there are too few participants.

The program has shown positive effects on children's eating habits, physical activity, and weight development, and is appreciated by school staff, children, and parents.
