Program Overview
Program Overview
The Master's Program in Work and Health is a two-year, part-time program that starts every year in the fall. The program consists of both overarching courses and specialization-specific courses. The program concludes with an independent degree project.
Program Structure
The program is divided into four terms, with the following courses:
- Term 1:
- Working life and health (7.5 credits)
- Work-related problems in the locomotor organs (7.5 credits)
- Exposure, risks and risk management in the work environment (7.5 credits)
- Occupational medicine (7.5 credits)
- Term 2:
- Scientific method (7.5 credits)
- Exposure, risk assessment and intervention (7.5 credits)
- Health promotion work in working life (7.5 credits)
- Intervention and evaluation in strategic work environment work (7.5 credits)
- Term 3:
- Work organization (7.5 credits)
- Working life-oriented rehabilitation (7.5 credits)
- Term 4:
- Degree project in work and health (15 credits)

The program offers several specializations, including:
- Specialization Ergonomics - Master's program in work and health
- Specialization Business nurse - Master's program in work and health
- Specialization Work environment strategist - Master's program in work and health
Course Descriptions
- Working life and health: Provides a common foundation in the field of work and health, regardless of educational background and chosen specialization.
- Scientific method: Aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and research ethics, as well as their application in research and development work in the field of work and health.
- Work organization: Covers basic organizational theory and organizational factors in today's working life that affect the work environment and health.
- Work life-oriented rehabilitation: Includes both specialization-specific and interprofessional elements, with the goal of increasing students' understanding of other professions' competence and roles in a field where clinical/practical work often takes place in interprofessional teams.
Degree Project
The degree project is an independent work that can be done as a smaller empirical study, a method study, or a case study. The project should be a deepening within the main field of work and health and be related to the student's specialization within the program.
Study Pace
The program is studied at a pace of 50%, which means that students are recommended not to work more than 50% during their studies. The program's courses are mostly distance-based, with some campus days (Mondays and/or Tuesdays). The study time is estimated to be 20 hours per week.
Previous Specialization
Behavioral Science specialization - Master's program in Work and Health was offered for the last time in HT21-VT23. This specialization provided in-depth knowledge of theories, models, and working methods related to, among other things, work organization and leadership.
