The Specialist Nursing Programs at Karolinska Institutet offer a range of courses and programs for students pursuing a career in specialist nursing. Course Description

The course Examensarbete i omvĺrdnad - distriktssköterska, 15 hp, is a seventh-course in the district nurse education program. The course is designed to deepen students' knowledge in the scientific basis of the main subject area and integrate theoretical and practical knowledge in the specialist area of district nursing. Students will demonstrate the ability to apply relevant research methodology in an independent thesis.

Course Format

The course is conducted in pairs (two students) and consists mainly of independent work, with group supervision. An examination seminar is held where opponents and respondents are examined, followed by the examination of the written thesis.

Registration

Registration for the course is mandatory and takes place via Ladok. Students will have access to the course room in Canvas when they register.

Examination

The examination consists of an examination seminar and the written thesis. The seminar is held approximately 1-2 weeks before the end of the course, and the written thesis is submitted via the learning platform on the last day of the course.

Welcome Information Campus VT26

The course starts on February 23, 2026, and students are divided into two groups. The groups will have different periods for clinical placement (VFU).

Welcome Information Distans VT26

The course starts on January 19, 2026, and is a distance-based course. Students will have access to the course room in Canvas when they register.

Format

The course is conducted in pairs, and students need to find a "writing partner" and agree on a topic before the course starts. The course consists mainly of independent work, with group supervision.
