Special Eligibility

To be eligible for this course, students must have at least 120 credits, including a professional degree in health care. Additionally, they must have Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 with a minimum grade of passed/E.


Objectives

After completing the course, students should be able to:


  • Demonstrate an understanding of human sexuality from a life cycle perspective
  • Explain the causes of sexual problems in acute and long-term illnesses
  • Show knowledge of the impact of relevant medications on sexuality
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to create a caring relationship that enables dialogue related to sexuality
  • Understand and explain the relationship between socio-cultural aspects and sexual health and rights, with a particular focus on female genital mutilation
  • Show knowledge of gender-based violence related to sexual health
  • Demonstrate an understanding of cultural encounters and intercultural communication in relation to sexual health and rights
  • Show knowledge of the UN's sustainability goals with a special emphasis on sexual health and rights

Content

The course provides an in-depth study of sexual health and rights from a life cycle perspective, including children's, adolescents', adults', and the elderly's health perspectives. It covers sexual problems in acute and long-term illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV/AIDS), gender-based violence, and the rights of sexual and gender minorities to care on equal terms. The course emphasizes the importance of a caring relationship that enables dialogue related to sexuality and explores socio-cultural aspects with a focus on harmful traditional practices and female genital mutilation.


Teaching Methods

The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, where the forms of teaching provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning. The teaching methods used are seminars and lectures.


Examination

Examination is carried out through a final seminar with an oral presentation and an individual written final examination. In addition to the final seminar, mandatory participation in another seminar is required.


Transition Provisions

For courses that have ceased or undergone significant changes, at least three additional examination opportunities (in addition to the regular one) will be provided on the previous content for a period of at least one year from the time the change occurred.
