Objectives

After completing the course, the student should be able to:


  • demonstrate an understanding of human sexuality in a life cycle perspective
  • explain the causes of sexual problems in acute and long-term illnesses
  • demonstrate knowledge of the impact of relevant medications on sexuality
  • demonstrate an understanding of how to create a caring relationship that enables dialogue related to sexuality
  • understand and explain the relationship between sociocultural aspects and sexual health and rights, with a special focus on female genital mutilation
  • demonstrate knowledge of gender-based violence related to sexual health
  • demonstrate an understanding of cultural encounters and intercultural communication in relation to sexual health and rights
  • demonstrate knowledge of the UN's sustainability goals with a special emphasis on sexual health and rights

Content

The course provides an in-depth study of sexual health and rights in a life cycle perspective, including child, adolescent, adult, and elderly health perspectives. Sexual problems in acute and long-term illnesses, such as cognitive, mental, and physical functional variations and their impact on the individual's sexual health, are discussed. The course also covers sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, and the right to care for sexual and gender minorities on equal terms.

Working Methods

The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, where working methods provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning. The working methods used are seminars and lectures.


Examination

Examination

Examination takes place through a final seminar with an oral presentation and an individual written final examination. In addition to the final seminar, mandatory participation in another seminar is required. The examiner assesses whether and how absence from compulsory educational components can be made up. Before the student has participated in the compulsory educational components or made up for absence in accordance with the examiner's instructions, the study results cannot be finalized.

Transition Provisions

For courses that have ceased or undergone significant changes, at least three additional examination opportunities (in addition to the regular one) shall be provided on the previous content for a period of at least one year from the time the change occurred.
