Mĺl

The purpose of the course is for students to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in psychosomatic physiotherapy, enabling them to apply a holistic perspective in patient work and prepare for development work in the specialist area of mental health.


  • After completing the course, the student should be able to:
    • Describe current theories and concepts in psychosomatic theory and explain how predisposing and current contextual factors can contribute to mental/psychosomatic illness
    • Independently plan and conduct physiotherapeutic examinations and assessments with a holistic perspective
    • Independently plan and implement psychosomatic physiotherapy within the specialist area of mental health
    • Account for and reflect on therapeutic attitude, the importance of interaction in physiotherapeutic treatment, and apply this knowledge in meeting patients
    • Reason about the physiotherapist's role in the treatment process and demonstrate the ability to self-reflection regarding their own possibilities and limitations in the treatment situation
    • Apply skills in interview and conversation methodology
    • Demonstrate scientific and critical thinking and a reflective approach to their own perspectives/values and the need for continuous learning

Innehĺll

The course includes:


  • Psychological and psychophysiological explanatory models for mental/psychosomatic illness
  • Body, being, meaning, and reflection as central concepts for understanding humans as an integrated whole
  • Physiotherapeutic examination methods with emphasis on resource-oriented body examination (ROK), body history, body image, and affect interview
  • Physiotherapeutic treatment methods such as basic body awareness (BK), psychomotor physiotherapy (PMF), autonomous regulation, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, physical activity, and relaxation
  • Therapeutic approach and conversation as a treatment intervention

Arbetsformer

Teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, where working methods provide opportunities for students to take active responsibility for their learning. The working methods used include lectures, web lectures, seminars, methodology, and practical application. Part of the learning will also take place through clinical reasoning in seminar form based on patient cases.


  • Mandatory educational elements occur, such as seminars, methodology, lectures, group work, and individual assignments.
  • The examiner assesses whether and how absence from mandatory educational elements can be compensated. Before the student has participated in the mandatory educational elements or compensated for absence in accordance with the course manager's instructions, the study results cannot be finalized. Absence from a mandatory educational element may mean that the student cannot retake the opportunity until the next time the course is given.

Examination

The course is examined as follows:


  • Individual written patient case report that is also presented orally, as well as opposition to another student's patient case report
  • Oral and written assignments that are presented individually and in groups
  • Mandatory attendance and active participation in patient case seminars and presentations
  • Grading Scale: Passed (G) / Failed (U)

Övergĺngsbestämmelser

Examination will be provided for a period of one year after a potential discontinuation of the course. Examination can take place according to the previous literature list for a period of one year after the time when a renewal of the literature list has been made.

Course evaluation is carried out according to the guidelines established by the Committee for Education at the basic and advanced levels. During the course, participants are encouraged to provide feedback on the course content and structure. Teaching Language: Swedish.
