Course: Bed—mning av gÍngfunktion hos barn och vuxna med funktionsnedsðttning
Course Overview
The course "Bed—mning av gÍngfunktion hos barn och vuxna med funktionsnedsðttning" is a 7.5 credit course at the advanced level. The main area of study is other subjects, and the course is given by the Department of Women's and Children's Health.
Course Description
The purpose of the course is to increase the student's knowledge of assessing gait function in children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities. The student will have the opportunity to develop their ability to analyze the impact of disability on gait and motivate treatment proposals.
Course Objectives
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Describe movement and gait based on biomechanical principles
- Describe gait, gait patterns, and gait ability using standardized methods and assessment instruments
- Account for the prerequisites for movement and gait
- Account for health conditions that affect gait in children and adults
- Reflect on factors that affect gait patterns and gait ability based on health conditions
- Reflect on and propose interventions aimed at improving gait, activity, and participation of importance to the individual
Course Content
The teaching includes:
- Biomechanical principles for movement and gait analysis
- Observation of gait
- Clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system
- Assessment instruments for measuring gait and gait ability
- Instrumental measurement of gait and function, such as three-dimensional movement analysis, marker-free systems, and electromyography (EMG)
- Theories related to movement science of importance for movement and gait
- Conditions and diagnoses in children and adults that affect gait, activity, and participation
- Interventions aimed at affecting gait, activity, and participation
- National and international guidelines for physical activity
Teaching Methods
The teaching is based on a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, where the working methods provide opportunities for the student to take active responsibility for their learning. The working methods used are lectures, seminars, workshops, group work, and individual work.
Examination
Examination takes place in the form of a written individual assignment and an oral presentation in a seminar based on patient cases from the students' practice.
