Course: Kost och fysisk aktivitet som medicin (Diet and Exercise as Medicine)

Course Overview

The course provides basic knowledge of the effects of diet and physical activity on health.

Course Description

The course covers the following topics:

• The body's energy metabolism
• Work physiology and nutrition
• Recommendations for diet and physical activity and their scientific basis
• Simple methods for measuring dietary intake and physical activity
• Evidence-based approach: searching, critically reviewing, and compiling literature and statements about the relationship between health, diet, and physical activity

Course Objectives

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

• Describe the body's energy metabolism at the cellular and whole-body level
• Identify the nutrients in the diet and their functions in the body
• Describe the body's adaptation to physical activity/training
• Explain the relationships between diet, physical activity, and common diseases
• Explain current recommendations for diet and physical activity and their scientific basis

Course Format

The course consists of lectures and web-based seminars that require individual preparation. Students work on a project during the course, which is presented in a written report and an oral presentation.

Examination

Examination is done through oral and written presentations, written reports, and oral presentations of the report. To pass the course, the student must receive a passing grade on the mandatory elements.
