Natural remedies and complementary medicine

Course Overview

The course "Natural herbs and complementary medicine" is a 7.5 credit course that focuses on complementary and alternative medicine.

Course Description

The course is designed for healthcare professionals, including pharmacists and clinical pharmacologists, as well as students who will encounter patients with questions about natural remedies and complementary medicine. The course covers the most commonly used complementary medicine methods, including herbal medicine, mindfulness, yoga, massage, and acupuncture.

Course Objectives

The course objectives are to:

• Describe the most commonly used complementary medicine methods
• Critically evaluate scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness, safety, and quality of these methods
• Compare the importance of different types of scientific studies in the field
• Problematize the use of complementary medicine methods from a national and international perspective

Course Content

The course covers the following topics:

• Herbal medicine
• Mindfulness
• Yoga
• Massage
• Acupuncture

Teaching Methods

The course uses a problem-oriented and collaborative approach to learning, with teaching methods including lectures, seminars, and quizzes.

Examination

The course is examined through a written examination assignment in the form of a home exam.

Requirements

To be eligible for the course, students must have completed 90 credits in healthcare and have a passing grade in Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6.
