Program Overview
Master of Education (Lehramt) Program
The Master of Education (Lehramt) program at the University of Hamburg is designed for students who have completed a relevant Bachelor's degree in teaching. To be eligible for the program, applicants must have completed a Bachelor's degree in a teaching-related field at the University of Hamburg or another institution.
Admission Requirements
To apply for the Master of Education (Lehramt) program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have completed a Bachelor's degree in a teaching-related field
- Have completed at least 120 credits (or 180 credits for students with a focus on music or art) in their Bachelor's program
- Have registered for their Bachelor's thesis by the time of enrollment
- Provide proof of language proficiency in English (level B2) for students applying for the sports education program
- Provide proof of swimming and lifeguarding skills (Deutsches Rettungsschwimmabzeichen in Silber) for students applying for the sports education program
Additional Requirements for Certain Programs
For students applying for the English, French, or Spanish education programs, an additional requirement is:
- A minimum three-month stay abroad in a country where the respective language is spoken
For students applying for the sports education program, additional requirements are:
- Proof of swimming and lifeguarding skills (Deutsches Rettungsschwimmabzeichen in Silber)
- Proof of language proficiency in English (level B2)
Special Considerations for External Applicants
Applicants with a teaching degree from an external institution must provide additional documentation to prove that they meet the admission requirements for the Master of Education (Lehramt) program.
Master of Education (Lehramt) Programs for Special Education
The University of Hamburg offers three different Master's programs in special education:
- Master of Education (Lehramt) for Special Education
- Master of Education (Lehramt) for Special Education - Profile Formation for Primary Schools
- Master of Education (Lehramt) for Special Education - Profile Formation for Secondary Schools Applicants must apply for the program that corresponds to their Bachelor's degree. External applicants must meet the admission requirements for the respective program.
