About Program
Program Overview
Program Overview
The Optics for Doctoral Researchers & Neutral Atom Quantum Computers Workshop is part of the PIER Graduate Week 2025. The workshop will take place on October 8-9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science, SR II and III.
Program Content
The workshop will cover two main topics:
- Applied lab knowledge on CW optics, including:
- Fourier optics
- Peculiarities of optical elements such as polarising beam splitters, wave plates, isolators, and optical fibres
- Review of lens types and their applications (singlets, doublets, aspheres)
- Introduction to cameras and their applications
- Introduction to neutral Rydberg atom (and possibly superconducting) quantum computers, with an emphasis on:
- Experimental implementation of single and two qubit gates
- Overview of the underlying principles and concepts
Trainers and Resources
The workshop will be led by Prof. Henning Moritz, University of Hamburg. Additional resources will include:
- Lecture slides (lectures 1, 2, and 3)
- Documents: Melles Griot Optics Tutorials and Eichler's paper
Program Schedule
The workshop is scheduled to take place on October 8-9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
