The University of Hamburg offers a Master's program in Higher Education, which is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the field.

Modules: Project
This module is a compulsory part of the Master's program in Higher Education. The module has the following characteristics:
- Workload: 20 credit points (6 SWS)
- Usability: Compulsory module in the Master Higher Education
- Frequency: every semester
- Duration: usually 3 semesters
- Participation requirement: none
###Qualification Objectives The objectives of the Module: Project are:
- Students find and describe a problem statement for their Design-Based Research project with practical relevance in relation to their own career goals and reference to higher education.
- Students process their problem statement theoretically, empirically, and design-orientedly, adhering to DBR-specific scientific standards.
- Students apply insights and methods from didactics, as well as optionally from teaching-learning research, science research, higher education research, and/or media education research, exemplarily in their own project, directly or indirectly.
- Students apply newly acquired content during the project runtime to their own activity in higher education teaching or higher education didactics.
- Students reflect on their own professionalization process against the background of their research experience.
- Students communicate the results of their project orally and in writing in a form understandable to persons in higher education didactics and higher education teaching.
Content
The content of the Module: Project includes:
- Project reference: project management for scientific projects; professionalization and project work; linking research and learning
- Research reference: Design-Based Research as a research genre with individually variable methodological design
Teaching-Learning Forms and Examination
The Module: Project consists of:
- Two online project conferences (one at the beginning and one at the end of the project study)
- Two blocked online events for the introduction and deepening of Design-Based Research (each approximately 4 weeks) with synchronous and asynchronous components and various task types
- Individual project accommodation by one of the teachers (science coaching)
- The project portfolio in the form of a report with accompanying artifacts from the project (module examination) is to be submitted before the second project conference. Further details on the examination are regulated by the FSB; current hints are given at the beginning of the module.
