Lateinamerika-Studien (LASt)

The Lateinamerika-Studien (LASt) program is an interdisciplinary course of study that focuses on the region of Latin America.

About LASt

The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the historical, cultural, social, and economic developments in Latin America. It is offered by the University of Hamburg and is open to students from all faculties.

Study Program

The study program consists of a Bachelor's and Master's degree. The Bachelor's program is not mandatory, but the Master's program requires an obligatory semester abroad.

• Bachelor
  • The Bachelor's program in Lateinamerika-Studien is not mandatory, but it is recommended that students spend a semester abroad in a Spanish or Portuguese-speaking country.
  • Students can use the semester break to complete an internship in Latin America or in Spain and Portugal.
  • Many of the credits earned abroad can be recognized by the University of Hamburg.
• Master
  • The Master's program in Lateinamerika-Studien requires an obligatory semester abroad.
  • Students have the opportunity to study at a university in Latin America, complete an internship in a Latin American institution, or participate in a guided research stay in Latin America.
  • The semester abroad can be organized independently by the students, with support from the university's international office.
