Introduction to the European and International Law Program

The European and International Law (MEIL) program is a one-year international master's program offered by the University of Hamburg, commencing in the 2022/23 academic year. This English-taught program provides students with in-depth knowledge of public international law and European law, preparing them for international careers that require an understanding of European and international concepts, intercultural competence, and excellent English language skills.

Program Structure and Duration

• The program lasts for 2 semesters, starting in September.
• Students study together in Hamburg during the winter semester and can choose to study either in Hamburg or at one of the European partner universities during the summer semester.
• The program includes an introductory module and three compulsory modules in the first semester, focusing on public international law, EU law, and European economic law.
• In the second semester, students can specialize in modules offered by the University of Hamburg and its European partner universities, covering areas such as international human rights, EU law, and European and international economic law.

Admission Requirements

• Applicants must hold a first qualifying degree in law from a university, equivalent to 240 ECTS credits.
• Proficiency in English is required, with a TOEFL score of 90 or IELTS 6.5. Native English speakers or those who have completed a university degree in English are exempt from this requirement.

Tuition Fees

• The program tuition fee is 7,000 Euros, plus a semester contribution to the University of Hamburg.

Academic Degree

• Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.).
