digital:KLUG
digital:KLUG is an interactive and innovative training program for history teachers. The goal is to support teachers in designing competency-oriented history lessons that cater to all learners in an increasingly complex and digital world.
What is digital:KLUG?
digital:KLUG is a training program based on the KLUG concept, which has been proven to be empirically effective. The program aims to provide teachers with the skills and knowledge to teach history in a way that is both effective and enjoyable for their students.
Why should you participate?
- The program has been shown to improve student competence development by about half a year.
- Teachers who participate in the program report teaching history with more joy and success.
How does it work?
- The program is a collaboration between history didactics, pedagogical psychology, and special needs education.
- The program takes place over a whole school year, with a combination of in-person and online events.
- Participants will learn how to use concepts such as Advance Organizers and historical terms, Direct Instruction, and Peer-Assisted Learning.
- The program includes intensive exchange between science and practice and networking with teachers from different schools and school types.
Dates and Locations
- The 1.5 or 2-day in-person events will take place on September 24-25, 2025, at the University of Hamburg and on March 23-24, 2026, at the LI.
- The first event in September will lay the groundwork and clarify the structure of the training program.
- The spring conference will focus on practical experiences and the expansion of the training program.
What else is important?
- digital:KLUG is carried out in cooperation with the University of T³bingen and the Landesinstitut (LI) Hamburg.
- Participation is open to teachers who teach history in at least one class at the gymnasium or history in the learning area of society at city schools.
- Please obtain written consent from your school administration before applying to ensure that you can participate in the entire training program.
Who are we?
digital:KLUG was conceived by a team of experienced scientists in cooperation with the University of Hamburg and T³bingen and is carried out with convinced experts from schools.
