Program Overview

E-Learning Certificate: Project Practicum

The E-Learning Instructional Design and Development Certificate culminates with the E-Learning Practicum. This practicum enables students to plan, design, develop, and evaluate their own online course, unit, or training to complete the program.

Course Objectives

In this course, students will learn how to:

  • Apply the concepts, instructional theories, principles, strategies, techniques, skills, and best practices that contribute to effective e-learning.
  • Identify and design learning activities, assessments, and methods that address the needs of the stakeholder and learner.
  • Utilize planning documents and charts to align assessments and instruction with goals and objectives, as well as stakeholder and learner needs.
  • Utilize a variety of technology tools and resources to provide different learning methods, opportunities, and interactions for diverse learners.
  • Evaluate, reflect, and make improvements to the course, unit, or training prior to implementation.

Program Requirements

Students must complete the other E-Learning Instructional Design and Development courses before taking the E-Learning Practicum. The time commitment for this course is 3-6 hours of work per week.

Course Overview

For this practicum, students will complete preliminary planning assignments that will be foundational to their efforts to design and develop their course or training. It is essential to include a method for gathering feedback from learners to evaluate the training in a process of continual improvement. At the conclusion of this course, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal experience in the instructional design process.

Instructional Design Certificate

This course is part of the E-Learning Instructional Design and Development Certificate, which includes:

  • Designing Effective E-Learning
  • Exploring E-Learning Tools
  • Developing and Implementing E-Learning
  • E-Learning Assessment and Evaluation
  • E-Learning Practicum

To earn the certificate, all courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher, or a pass. Although it is not required, it is strongly recommended that students take the courses in sequence if they are new to instructional design.

College Partners

This program is a collaboration between Oregon State University College of Education and Oregon State University Professional and Continuing Education.

Master's Degree in Learning Design and Technology

Upon completing this E-Learning Certificate, students can apply six units toward the University of San Diego's Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology. The LDT program is fully designed to help students gain the skills, technical knowledge, and hands-on practice needed to achieve their goals. The degree program is built with flexibility for working professionals to earn their master's degree in just 20 months while working 100% online.
