Program Overview


Pruning and Training Blackberries

This course will provide home gardeners and small farmers with information needed to prune the various types of blackberries grown in North America: floricane-fruiting trailing, semi-erect, and erect cultivars and single- or double-cropping primocane-fruiting erect cultivars.

In this course, narrated lectures with photos and videos will address the learning outcomes, including an understanding of:


  1. Types of blackberries grown and regional adaptation
  2. The basics of plant growth and understanding the differences between blackberry types
  3. How to prune and train floricane-fruiting trailing blackberries
  4. How to prune and train floricane-fruiting semi-erect and erect blackberries
  5. How to prune and train primocane-fruiting blackberries for a single or double crop
