About Program

Program Overview

Master of Natural Resources Online

The Master of Natural Resources program at Oregon State University is delivered online and offered with a capstone project rather than a thesis. The MNR coursework is founded on contemporary content for natural resources professionals who work in settings that require cross-disciplinary competency to find solutions to natural resources problems.

Curriculum

A total of 45 quarter credits are required to graduate with your MNR degree. Full degree requirements and curriculum information are available on Oregon State's academic catalog.

Specialization Areas

You can choose an area of emphasis from the following graduate certificate programs, or you and your advisor can design your own area of focus based on your career goals. All certificate programs are delivered online by OSU Ecampus.

  • Fisheries management
  • Forests and climate change
  • Geographic information science
  • Sustainable natural resources
  • Urban forestry
  • Water conflict management
  • Wildlife management
  • Custom designed option (no certificate)

Oral Examination

Successful completion of a final oral examination is required for all master's degrees. You will defend your course of study and capstone project by coordinating with your Graduate Advisory Committee. The final oral examination can be done electronically, meaning you are never required to travel to the Oregon State campus.
