Program Overview

Chemistry Education Option

The Chemistry Education option is a Track-Two option in the BS degree in Chemistry directed at students planning to teach high school chemistry or continuing with graduate education and teaching careers at community colleges. Students can earn a BS degree in Chemistry in four years and obtain experience that can be useful when applying for the undergraduate companion Education Double-Degree or the graduate Master of Science in Education.


Overview

This option includes 11 courses covering teaching methods, a secondary endorsement area, and undergraduate teaching internship and teaching seminar in chemistry.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate competency in basic laboratory techniques, laboratory safety, chemical synthesis, and measurement of chemical properties and phenomena.
  • Communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing.
