Program Overview
The Education Double Degree (DD) program is an undergraduate pathway to teacher preparation, enabling students to earn two undergraduate degrees concurrently: one in their chosen field and the second in Education (BA or BS degree), including a recommendation to obtain an Oregon teaching license in a specific content area/endorsement.
Program Structure
The Education DD program consists of two stages:
- Level I: Pre-Education: Foundational courses in education, serving as pre-requisites for Level II, which also meet baccalaureate core requirements and elective credits in students' first degree.
- Level II: Professional Education: Teacher preparation courses in Elementary Education or one of many options in Secondary Education (Middle/High School).
Admission Requirements
Students must complete all Level I required courses, pass required exams, and meet other entrance requirements before applying to Level II.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, students will:
- Understand how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and design and implement developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.
- Understand the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) they teach and create learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.
- Plan instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.
- Understand and use multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher's and learner's decision making.
- Practice ongoing reflection and use evidence to continually evaluate their practice, particularly the effects of their choices and actions on others, and adapt their practice/choices accordingly.
