Program Overview
Sports Business Option
The Sports Business option provides students with an understanding of the fundamentals of the business of sport, including sports finance, marketing, analytics, and sponsorship. This option is available at the Corvallis campus and via Ecampus within the following majors:
- Apparel Design
- Business Administration
- Business Analytics
- Design and Innovation Management
- Interior Design
- Merchandising Management
Program Description
The program builds on core business knowledge acquired in business and design programs to which this option is attached and prepares students for careers in sports-related organizations.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, students will meet the following learning outcomes:
- Recognize the challenges and issues within the sports industry.
- Develop and apply analytical skills to improve sports business decision making.
- Identify and interpret core financial practices and issues in the sports industry.
- Analyze problems to develop and adjust marketing strategies in the sports industry.
- Prepare and critically evaluate the strategic implications of sponsorship.
- Develop and apply analytical skills to improve sports business decision making.
Course Requirements
The following courses are required for the Sports Business option:
- BA 350: The Business of Sport (2 credits)
- BANA 450: Introduction to Sports Analytics (2 credits)
- FIN 450: Financing Sport (2 credits)
- MRKT 451: Sports Marketing (2 credits)
- MRKT 452: Sports Sponsorship (2 credits)
- MRKT 489: Personal Selling Skills and Techniques (4 credits)
Students must also select two courses from the following list:
- MGMT 364: Project Management
- MGMT 452: Leadership
- MGMT 455: Influence and Negotiation
- MRKT 484: Digital Marketing Platforms
- MRKT 486: Customer Relationship Management
- MRKT 493: Integrated Marketing Communications Total credits required: 22
Additional Requirements
Students in this option must complete BA 352 and (BA 223 or BA 390) in the major with a grade of C or higher. The Option Code for this program is 020.
