Program Overview
Master's Program for Teaching at Primary Schools with a Quereinstieg Profile (Umstiegs-Master)
The Master of Education marks the final stage of your teaching studies. In comparison to our teaching-related bachelor's programs, the focus here is stronger on profession-related components. This means that you will primarily study subject didactics and educational sciences, and to a lesser extent, subject sciences.
Program Structure
- The program begins with the Master of Education, which is the final stage of your teaching studies.
- The first semester focuses on two educational science modules, dealing with learning promotion and motivation, as well as pedagogical diagnostics.
- You will also acquire scientifically founded knowledge and competencies in subject sciences and subject didactics, which will deepen and complement the contents of your bachelor's studies.
- In the second semester, subject didactic and/or subject scientific lectures in your subjects on selected topics will support you in getting a good start into the first longer practical phase.
Practical Experience and Specialization
- The third semester, the practical semester, provides you with the opportunity to test, further develop, and reflect on your competencies in school, accompanied by mentors and lecturers.
- In the fourth semester, you will deepen subject didactic contents in an area of your choice, utilizing the practical experiences gained.
- This final semester also includes your master's thesis, which can be written in any study component (subject science, subject didactics, educational science).
Support and Additional Offers
- The Dahlem School of Education will be your point of contact for study and examination matters from the beginning of the master's program.
- Student advisory services and study and examination offices will support you in completing your studies quickly and successfully.
- Numerous additional offers are available, such as Lehramt Plus, a practice-oriented workshop series on current topics related to teaching studies, and events preparing you for the preparatory service.
