Program Overview


Introduction to the Program

The program is designed to address the growing need for trained professionals who can develop and implement intercultural qualification programs for universities. The goal is to equip participants with the necessary competencies to create effective intercultural training programs tailored to the university context.


Program Description

The program focuses on interactive procedures for exchanging and reflecting on intercultural experiences. Through practical application of methods combined with theories from the field of intercultural communication, participants will acquire tools to explore intercultural communication. Additionally, they will develop a repertoire of models and methods for designing intercultural training programs.


Target Audience

The program is aimed at university employees, including those in administration, academics, and faculty members with international experience who wish to acquire competencies to introduce or further develop intercultural qualification programs at universities. This includes individuals with administrative and teaching responsibilities in central institutions and faculties, such as international offices, language centers, university didactics, program coordination, and student counseling. Experience in training, consulting, or event organization is beneficial.


Objectives

The program's primary objectives are to:


  • Develop interactive procedures for intercultural exchange and reflection
  • Equip participants with tools to explore intercultural communication
  • Provide a repertoire of models and methods for designing intercultural training programs
  • Develop perspectives for conceptualizing alternative formats, such as peer case consultation, lectures in international study programs, and intercultural experience exchange

Program Structure

The program consists of four modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of intercultural training:


Module I: Introduction to Intercultural Qualification Programs

  • Dates: 26-28 February 2026 (in-person, Berlin)
  • Content: Introduction to the framework and design of intercultural qualification programs for universities

Module II: Developing Training Concepts

  • Dates: 7-9 May 2026 (online)
  • Content: Developing training concepts, exploring cultural differences and similarities

Module III: Expanding Methodological Repertoire

  • Dates: 2-4 July 2026 (in-person, Berlin)
  • Content: Expanding the methodological repertoire for intercultural communication, including role-playing, simulations, and critical incidents

Module IV: Professionalizing Training and Evaluation

  • Dates: 17-19 September 2026 (in-person, Bonn)
  • Content: Designing comprehensive training concepts, professionalizing training moderation, and evaluating training programs

Costs

The total cost for the entire program (four modules, 12 days) is 3,400 when registered before the start of the first module. This includes all seminar materials and beverage service during seminar times.

  • Prof. Dr. Gwen Hiller, Professor of Counseling Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences of the Federal Employment Agency in Mannheim
  • Dr. Elke Bosse, Senior Consultant and Project Manager at the HIS Institute for Higher Education Development
  • Ulrike Zillmer-Tantan, Cultural Scientist and lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin

Certification

The program is offered in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and leads to a certification upon completion.
