Introduction to the Master's Program in Politikwissenschaft Affaires Internationales/Affaires Européennes

The Master's program in Politikwissenschaft Affaires Internationales/Affaires Européennes is a dual-degree program offered in collaboration with Sciences Po Paris and the Otto-Suhr-Institut für Politikwissenschaft at the Freie Universität Berlin.


Program Structure

The program is designed for cohorts of up to 25 students, who spend the first year in Paris and the second year in Berlin. The academic year in Paris begins in late August or early September, while the academic year in Berlin starts in mid-October.

Curriculum and Degree Requirements

During the first year in Paris, students follow either the Master's program in Affaires européennes at the Ecole d'Affaires publiques or one of seven Master's programs at the Paris School of International Affairs. In the second year, students are integrated into the Master's program in Politikwissenschaft at the Freie Universität Berlin. Students earn 60 ECTS credits at each university, totaling 120 ECTS credits.


Mandatory Internship and Research

A six-week mandatory internship is part of the curriculum, typically completed between the first and second years. Students also participate in two joint seminars designed specifically for the dual-degree program, focusing on the challenges and potentials of German-French and European cooperation.


Master's Thesis and Graduation

The final semester is dedicated to writing the Master's thesis, accompanied by a research colloquium. Upon completion of the two-year program, students are awarded two Master of Arts degrees, one from the Freie Universität Berlin and the other from Sciences Po.


Tuition Fees

There are no tuition fees at the Otto-Suhr-Institut, but Sciences Po charges tuition fees, which are calculated based on social criteria.
